Diabetes Lifestyle
I know you are not crazy about exercise, but so you understand how important a healthy diabetes lifestyle that includes physical activity is, I want to bring to your attention The Finnish Diabetes Prevention Study. This was one of the first studies of its kind to show that type 2 diabetes is preventable with lifestyle changes, mainly exercise and diet.
The Finnish Diabetes Prevention Study
In this study 522 middle-aged, overweight subjects who had impaired glucose tolerance or better known as pre-diabetes, participated for 3 years. The goals of the study were to reduce body weight and saturated fat and to increase physical activity as well as dietary fiber.
The results of the study
By the end of the study, the people who had exercised regularly and followed a healthy diet had reduced the risk of diabetes by 58%. Not bad at all! These results have been reproduced by the Diabetes Prevention Program. I’ll tell you about this other study tomorrow.
I hope these results convince you that practicing a diabetes lifestyle, where physical activity is a substantial component, it is imperative. I am confident you’ll start your daily exercise routine as soon as possible as it can prevent your doctor from prescribing medication for your diabetes type 2.
Have a good and physically active day.
