Lawyers Launch DePuy Avandia Heart Attack and Stroke Information Website and Offer No Cost Avandia Case Review

The Avandia lawyers at Onder, Shelton, O’Leary & Peterson, LLC have created a web site providing information about Avandia and how it has been linked to tens of thousands of heart attacks and strokes and the latest news on Avandia lawsuits

The law firm of Onder, Shelton, O’Leary & Peterson, LLC has launched a new website dedicated to providing information about Avandia heart attack and stroke lawsuits and are offering a free Avandia lawyer consultation to those, or families of those, suffering from heart problems of any kind after taking the diabetes drug.

The website offers information about Avandia, the increased risk of heart attack and stroke it posed to its users, Avandia FDA warnings, the fight to have it removed from the market as well as answers to frequently asked Avandia lawsuit questions.

Avandia, the brand name for GlaxoSmithKline’s drug rosiglitazone, has been controversial since it was first approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1999. Once one of the most popular drugs used to control blood sugar levels in Type 2 diabetes patients, Avandia is largely out of circulation after a September 23, 2010 vote by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to severely limit its use in the United States.

The FDA’s regulation has been called into question by everyone from the Senate Finance Committee to Time Magazine, which specifically pointed to Avandia as an example of how the FDA regulatory system is broken. The Senate Finance Committee claimed that GlaxoSmithKline withheld important information that demonstrated Avandia was unsafe for the general public, which has also been alleged by many Avandia lawyers.

The FDA has linked Avandia to 83,000 heart attacks between 1999 and 2007 and a study by the agency’s Associate Director of Drug Safety shows the rate of overall cardiovascular disease to be much higher. Some studies have shown that Avandia increased the risk of heart attack by 43% and the risk of stroke by 27%.

The occurrences of these health problems were even higher in persons over the age of 65. Thus far there have been over 13,000 lawsuits filed against GlaxoSmithKline, with roughly 10,000 now settled. Investigations as to what information the drug’s manufacturer had regarding Avandia’s heart attack and stroke risks and when those risks were known are ongoing.
